CHELTENHAM LITERATURE FESTIVAL 2018

CLC is proud to be the strategic partner of Cheltenham Festivals and to be sponsoring The Times and The Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival, 5th - 14th October 2018. 

This year’s key theme is East meets West, with a programme that focusses on a fascinating part of the world that is rapidly changing and rising in global influence. Guest curators include Sebastian Faulks, Tristram Hunt and Peter Frankopan.

College is sponsoring the following events:

Women and Power

Mary Beard talks to Georgina Godwin about the cultural underpinnings of misogyny and how to change the narrative around women and power.

On the Road with Trump

Jon Sopel The BBC’s North America editor covers an extraordinary year in US and global politics.

There will be a reception at the Festival site for parents and Guild members before the Jon Sopel event on Sunday 7th October (tickets for this event have sold out).

Syria: The Dynamics of War

The Times Forum Panel C4’s International Editor, Lindsey Hilsum, leads a panel discussion considering the cultural, social and political costs of the war and its regional and international implications. Featuring the BBC’s Chief International Correspondent, Lyse Doucet.

Peter Frankopan – The New Silk Road

Guest curator, Peter Frankopan, Professor of Global History at Oxford University, updates his 2015 global bestseller, The Silk Road.

Is Social Media The Curse of Our Age?

Hugo Rifkind, Katherine Ormerod and Emma Gannon discuss whether, for the sake of our sanity, we should switch off from social media and live instead.

College is also co-sponsoring the ‘Book Stand’ on site at Montpellier Gardens, which is in the Bandstand and features a sofa area and book swap.

SFC girls will introduce the speakers at our sponsored events and we have reserved tickets for these and a number of other events. There will be boarders weekend trips for LC1 and LC2.

The PAC continues to be a key venue during the Festival, hosting 20 events over the 10 days.
