CLC at Cheltenham Science Festival 2019
This year's Science Festival was another amazing six days of science, with events taking place in the Parabola Arts Centre and in venues across Cheltenham.
College sponsored two events, The Age of Precision: Watt's Next and Apollo 50: A Celebration, both of which were introduced by College girls.
College also was privileged to host a drinks reception celebrating Pioneers of Science. The event brought together current students, Guild members and presenters from the Festival, and provided a great opportunity to share ideas and speak to some of the inspirational scientists present in Cheltenham.
Students were delighted to be able to network with scientists working in fields as diverse as neuroscience, astrophysics and climate change. They also had the opportunity to discuss the importance of science education and communication with Vivienne Parry OBE (Festival Chair), and Ian George (Director of Festivals).
Our guest speaker for the evening was Marika Taylor, Professor of Theoretical Physics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Southampton, who described her route into a scientific life, completing her doctoral thesis under Professor Stephen Hawking, and the challenges and successes she has experienced throughout her career.
