Former Housemistress of Glenlee - Mrs Dorothy Fletcher

We have received the sad news that Mrs Dorothy Fletcher former Housemistress of Glenlee (from 1983-1992), died on Monday 8th October.  She started her career at College as a part-time member of the house staff in Glenlee in 1974 and became Housemistress of Glenlee in 1983, succeeding Mrs Gilmore.

Her family has asked us to pass on the funeral arrangements to any Guild and Honorary members who may have known her.

PGC - STEAM NETWORKING DINNER

The first Networking Dinner of this academic year was STEAM, rather than STEM, which also encompasses the Arts. This was very well received by girls and many really appreciated the value that art adds to science in general.

The event was oversubscribed, with many offers from guests to attend and huge numbers of girls wanted to come along too. The conversation flowed all evening and it was a real pleasure to see how girls discovered new career paths and were actively looking for advice.

Dame Clare Marx (1968-1972, Roderic) has been appointed by the Privy Council as the new Chair of the General Medical Council (GMC) to succeed Professor Sir Terence Stephenson in January 2019. She becomes the first woman to hold the Chair since the GMC was established 160 years ago.

COLLEGE WELCOMES DR ROWAN WILLIAMS

On 4th December, the Religious Studies and Philosophy Department welcomed Dr Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury and current Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge.

Dr Williams spoke about the responsibility of Christian communities to engage with inter-faith work, citing the Building Bridges programme he developed as Archbishop, which has since held ecumenical and inter-faith conferences across the world, including in Sarajevo, Washington D.C. and Rome.
