College Musicians in Italy - July 2023
College Choir and Chamber Orchestra enjoyed a wonderful week in Umbria and Tuscany this summer. Straight off the back of an impressive summer concert, leaving prayers and Speech Day, the group of 50 college musicians enjoyed the delights of Assisi, Spoletto, Perugia, Siena, and Florence. Concerts in Todi, Trevi and Montepulciano were spectacular, and the opportunity to sing Mass at the Basilica of St Francis was a great privilege. In addition to local residents and tourists in the audience for the concerts, many parents siblings also followed the tour, and they were also supported by members of Guild. Ruth Chapman (1985-1990, St Austin's/Beale) attended the concert in the Chiesa del Gesù in Montepulciano. On our return, she contacted us, writing: ‘I just wanted to send a quick note to say what a marvellous concert it was - the quality of talent on show was amazing. I brought with me 7 friends who thoroughly enjoyed it and were surprised at the level of talent for their ages.’
Following Mass in Assisi, we were greeted by Mrs Daphne Puccinelli (neé Mellors, 1958-1964, Cambray/Fauconberg - pictured below), who had travelled from Rome to come and hear College Choir sing in the Basilica. She made time to chat with some SFC1 students, who were delighted to meet her and incredibly appreciative of the efforts she had made to come and support the music tour.
A fantastic week of great food, inspiring places, and deepening friendships. We are certain that this tour will have lasting memories for all.
