New Chair of College Council

Mr Nick Baird has succeeded Ms Libby Bassett (1971-1977, St Austin's/Fauconberg) as Chair of College Council as of December 2020.  He is committed to helping College provide the best possible education for CLC girls, and we look forward to introducing him to you properly later in the year.

Nick is Group Corporate Affairs Director of Centrica plc, and he has extensive Government experience. His roles have included Chief Executive of UK Trade and Investment, Director General in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), and the British Ambassador to Turkey. He was a member of the Board of the FCO, and of the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills.

Nick is a trustee of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew; a member of the Advisory Council of Sheffield University Management School; a member of the Development Committee of the Prince’s Teaching Institute (part of Prince’s Trust); and a member of the President’s Committee at the Institute of Exports. He is Chair Elect for Carers UK and has also been a Non-Executive Director of Nord Anglia Education Inc.

Educated at Dulwich College and Emmanuel College, Cambridge, Nick has an MA in English Literature. He was elected to Council in February 2020.
