Scottish Guild Members’ visit to The Burrell Collection, Glasgow

The internationally-renowned Burrell Collection in Glasgow was the focus for the latest meet-up for College’s Scottish Guild members on 29th April 2022.

Set in the beautiful surroundings of Pollok Country Park, the newly-refurbished Burrell Collection (www.burrellcollection.com ) is home to a staggering 9,000 art objects, collected by shipping merchant Sir William Burrell and gifted to the City of Glasgow by Sir William and his wife Constance in 1944.

Artefacts include Chinese art, medieval treasures, sculptures by Rodin - including The Thinker - and paintings by Manet, Cezanne and Degas.

After a tasty lunch and a lively catch-up, Guild members explored the diverse treasures on display and when it was time to head home, everyone vowed to return before long.

Many thanks to Angie Emler (née James, 1973-1975St Helen’s/Eversleigh) for organising such a lovely day.

Caroline Lindsay (née Headley, 1970-1975, St Clare)
