Suffolk Event 13/07/2023
VISIT TO KENTWELL HALL
On Thursday 13th July 2023, Suffolk Guild will be visiting Kentwell Hall, Long Melford, CO10 9BA. (https://www.kentwell.co.uk)
Kentwell Hall is a beautiful moated tudor house set in 25 acres of parkland and gardens. (Not to be confused with Melford Hall, a nearby National Trust property).
We will gather at 11.00 am for an introductory talk (usually given by one of the present day owners – Patrick and Judith Phillips) which will be followed by a self-guided visit to the gardens. This includes the moathouse, camera obscura, unique topiary created by Judith Phillips, a remarkable carved Lebanon cypress, a neoclassical temple and walled gardens with ancient fruit trees. We will then visit the main house – original Tudor with alterations from the early 19th century and modern day additions. There are many varied and fascinating artifacts, including a modern painted ceiling after Breughel, fine tapestries, a who’s who of tudor portraits, ornate leather screens of Edward VI coronation, Chinoiserie etc etc.
We will retire for lunch at 1.30 pm at Scutchers in Westgate St, Long Melford, CO10 9DP, https://scutchers.com (click here for menu).
If you are interested in joining, for Kentwell Hall or Lunch or both, please contact Allie Gillams on alliesorting@gmail.com or on telephone 07796 951552 by 29th June. Guild members, husbands/partners and friends will be welcome.
