VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR WW1 EXHIBITION AT CLC - MAY 2018
As part of the Cheltenham Borough Council ‘Cheltenham Remembers WWI’ project to mark the end of the WWI four year commemoration period, the CLC Archives Service is putting on an exhibition in the PAC. This will chronicle the immense contribution of girls, staff and Guild members to the war effort as they responded to Government appeals for help on the home front and in a medical capacity on the Western Front. It includes a recreated ward from St Martin’s VAD Hospital, which was set up by College to care for wounded soldiers. The exhibition also focuses on the lasting effects the war had on female emancipation and the increased participation of women in the work place.
The exhibition has been timed to coincide with the 2018 Guild Reunion and is open to all CLC pupils, staff and the public at the following times:
Location: Cheltenham Ladies’ College Parabola Arts Centre, Parabola Road, Cheltenham GL50 3AA
Date and Time: Monday 14th May – Friday 25th May 2018
Opening Times: Monday – Friday 10.00am – 3.00pm, Saturday 10.00am – 12.30pm, Sunday closed.
The Archives Service would be delighted to hear from any Guild members who can volunteer to man the exhibition in two and a half hour slots from 10:00am – 12:30pm, and from 12:30pm – 3:00pm on any day when it is open. This would entail sitting at a Reception desk to greet visitors, collating visitor numbers, handing out information leaflets and collecting any feedback from these visitors. If you are interested in the history of College and Guild and enjoy meeting people, and could volunteer your time for this valuable project then the Archives Service would be very pleased to hear from you.
